Accommodations & Dining

One of the last original Gloucester Fishing schooners, the American Eagle’s open deck space, comfortable cabins, and spacious interior blend the function of a period yacht, while keeping the charm of the western Atlantic’s working vessels.

Your Cabin

Evoking the charm of classic art deco yachting with the right balance of modern amenities, a stay aboard the Schooner American Eagle is an opportunity to simplify and relax.

Each cabin aboard the American Eagle is equipped with reading lights, fan, 12-volt charging outlet, and a sink with potable hot and cold water.

When you arrive your cabin is made with fresh sheets, pillows, wool blankets, and plenty of pillows.

Most cabins are located in the Midships and Main cabins. Our main cabin stove keeps you cozy on cool nights.

The Galley

In the tradition of Gloucester fishing schooners, the American Eagle features a large and commodious galley-foc’sle. Although we serve most meals on deck, there is more than enough room to relax, read, or play a boardgame. Take a book or game from library.

The cushioned benches and curved ceiling are a comfortable place to Escape the rain or chat with our galley crew while relaxing on our cushioned benches leaning against the curved ceiling. If you help our crew dry dishes you might even get some inside knowledge about what’s for dinner.

We cook all our food on our Shipmate wood-fired cookstove, it also provides great warmth during the colder months.

Main Cabin

The paneled main cabin features a stove for cold nights and cushioned settees for reading or relaxing.

The stove heats the schooner during the cooler temps of early summer and fall.

Our library, in the Main and Midships cabins, includes classic Maine and nautical literature. Capt. King and the crew often read their favorite selections during the evening.

Bathroom Facilities

Two toilets and a separate fresh hot-water shower are located below deck, and are cleaned multiple times a day.

No berth is more than a few steps away from the toilet.

The shower is available from the morning to the evening, even while the anchor is up.

Dining

“The fare of fisherman is far better than one would suppose… They live far better than any other class of seafaring men, and have provisions of a better grade and in greater variety.”

~ reported Henry Osborne in 1879 after a trip aboard the Gloucester schooner Victor.

“In keeping with the tradition of the fishing schooners we serve locally sourced and seasonally varied cuisine. We aim to keep the traditions of artisan, plentiful and delicious food alive and well aboard the American Eagle.”
